The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a tri-service organisation comprising the Army, Navy, and Air Force, committed to training young minds and instilling values of discipline, courage, leadership, and patriotism.
Government College, Rupnagar introduced NCC with the objective of contributing to national service and nurturing youth with military orientation. The College has a fully functional NCC unit affiliated with the 3 Punjab Girls Battalion, Ludhiana, under the guidance of an enthusiastic and dedicated Associate NCC Officer, Lt. Jasdeep Kaur. The unit comprises two Army Wing platoons with a sanctioned strength of 107 cadets across first, second, and third year.
“Unity and Discipline”
The NCC aims to develop character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, spirit of adventure, and ideals of selfless service among young citizens. It seeks to create a pool of organised, trained, and motivated youth with leadership qualities who are always ready to serve the nation in all walks of life.
The duration of the NCC training programme is three years. During this period, cadets undergo basic military training aimed at developing interest in the Indian Armed Forces and fostering leadership and organisational skills.
1. Institutional Training:
Conducted within the college by the Associate NCC Officer and Armed Forces personnel, this training covers the NCC syllabus comprising common and service subjects, including basic military drills and discipline.
2. Camp Training:
Camp training introduces cadets to a regimented way of life. Participation in a minimum of two camps during the enrolment period is mandatory. The various types of camps include:
Senior Wing cadets of NCC appear in two certificate examinations, namely ‘B’ Certificate and ‘C’ Certificate, which are significant for higher education and defence career opportunities.
