The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Government of India sponsored public service programme conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Launched in 1969 during the centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi, the scheme provides students an opportunity to participate in community service and nation-building activities.
At Government College, Rupnagar, five NSS units recruit nearly 500 volunteers every year. NSS volunteers actively contribute to social awareness drives and developmental initiatives. During session 2020–21, NSS (Girls Wing) volunteer Akriti Sharma was selected for the prestigious Pre-Republic Day (PRD) Camp and participated in the Republic Day Parade.
